The Health Services Academy (HSA), established in 1988 by the Ministry of Health, became Pakistan’s first Degree Awarding Institute (DAI) in Public Health Sciences in 2018. Granted autonomy in 2002 and now under the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, HSA has been at the forefront of developing skilled human resources for public health. HSA launched its Master’s in Public Health (MPH) in 1996, upgraded to a two-year MSPH in 2006, followed by an Extended MSPH (2008) and Evening MSPH (2013). It further expanded with postgraduate programs in Medical Entomology and Disease Vector Control (2009), Health Economics and Management (2010), and introduced Pakistan’s first PhD in Public Health (2012). Committed to research and innovation, HSA collaborates with international universities including Manitoba, Bradford, and Liverpool, producing numerous publications through its faculty and students. The Pakistan Journal of Public Health and Annual Public Health Conference are flagship initiatives promoting research and dialogue. With DAI status, HSA continues to strengthen its role as a national hub for public health education, research, and policy, aspiring to become a regional center of excellence in Public Health.
