Physical and chemical properties:
Paraquat dichloride forms colourless,hygroscopic crystals, decomposing at 300℃, v.p. negligible. Solubility , easily 0soluble0 in0 water, slightly soluble in short-china alcohol,practically insoluble in most other organic solvents.stability stable in neutral and acidic media, but readily oxidized in alkaline media. Tech salts are corrosive to common metals.
Toxicity :
Acute oral LD50 for rats 150 mg/kg, for mice 104 mg/kg, for dogs 25-50 mg/kg, for sheep 70 mg/kg . Acute percutaneous LD50 for rabbits 236-500 mg paraquat0 ion/kg. Irritating 0to skin0 and eyes. Absorption through intact human skin is minimal; exposures can cause irritation and a delay in the healing of cuts and wounds; can cause temporary damage to nails. If inhaled, may cause nose bleeding. Other has serious delayed effects if absorbed. Fish toxicitty: TLM(48hrs.) is 62 ppm 0for rainbow trout, TLM (48 hrs.) is 40 ppm0 for carp. ADI 0.004 mg/kg b.w.
